Vibe Project Managing (A Thought Experiment)

You’ve heard of vibe marketing and vibe coding, but what about vibe project managing?

Lately, I’ve been wondering what it might look like to manage projects the same way developers now “vibe code” with LLMs; more conversationally, intuitively, and with a little help from an always-on co-PM.

What if project managers had an AI sidekick — an LLM that actually understood the project inside and out? Not just the task list, but the communication patterns, the tone of updates, the dependencies, the little friction points that tend to snowball later.

Could something like that exist?

If It Did Exist…

Let’s imagine it for a second.

Your LLM is connected to all your usual tools like email, Jira, Teams, and Sharepoint. You don’t check dashboards anymore (or as much); you just talk to it.

You ask:

• “What tasks are slipping this week?”

• “Any patterns in how the team’s working?”

• “Do you see any bottlenecks coming up?”

And instead of giving you raw data, it gives you insight. Almost like a project whisperer that notices trends you wouldn’t have time to.

Sounds great…or maybe a little unnerving?

The Human Side

If an LLM can surface all the patterns, maybe that frees us up to focus more on the human parts like morale, motivation, decision-making, and culture.

But I also wonder if you delegate that much of the “situational awareness” to an AI, do you start losing your feel for the project’s vibe? The subtle cues you can only get by being in it.

Maybe “vibe project managing” only works if it amplifies your awareness, not replaces it. And that onus lies directly with the individual PM.

Just a Thought

I’m not saying this is how project management should work, but it’s interesting to think about.

If developers can “vibe code” with an AI partner, why couldn’t PMs “vibe manage,” reading the energy of a project through a mix of data and intuition?

Would this kind of setup actually make us better leaders? Or would it risk flattening what makes project management so human? Or am I way behind the curve and are PMs already doing this? Let me know in the comments.
