The Brain and LLMs
Have you ever wondered how the human brain works? According to a great book I'm reading about memory, Joshua Foer, author of "Moonwalking with Einstein,"(published in 2011!!) posits that our brains are fundamentally prediction and planning machines.
This sounds remarkably similar to what I've been discovering in my exploration of AI models, particularly LLMs. It's fascinating to see how technology is mimicking the intricate workings of the human brain. As Foer puts it, our brains strive to find order in the chaos of possible memories. Fascinating!
"One might say that the whole point of our nervous system, from the sensory organs that feed information to the glob of neurons that interprets it, is to develop a sense of what is happening in the present and what will happen in the future, so that we can respond in the best possible way. Strip away emotions, the philosophizing, the neuroses, and the dreams, and 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀, 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲, 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀. And to work efficiently, they have to find order in the chaos of possible memories."
